September Blog: Back to School

Whether you’re a teacher, work in a school, a parent or a pupil, September is ingrained in everyone’s minds as Back to School Time! Now the new academic year is well under-way, we wanted to share with you our new Autumn & Winter Brochure, and some fun events that will enhance classroom teaching this term.

According to research, time and confidence are the two main factors that commonly deter teachers from teaching outside of the classroom in real and natural environments. They may be worried about how to plan an outdoor session, or what to do. Or perhaps they’re worried about safety, risk assessments or behaviour. Then there’s always the rain…

Whilst we can’t work miracles with the weather (unfortunately), we can help your school in breaking down those barriers and bringing your pupils outside.

Mount Cook differs from other Activity Providers, as we are super flexible! All of our residential trips and activity days are bespoke to the school group. Simply let us know which activities and educational programmes you would like to include, and we will create an itinerary tailored to your group’s needs and classroom topics. You can also stay with us for as long as you like! We don’t restrict residential trips to three or five days. For further peace of mind, we will provide all of the necessary risk assessments before your arrival, and you can rest assured that a 24-hour first aider is always present for the duration of your stay.

There’s a lot that we can offer!

Our brand new high-ropes course, installed just over a month ago, has already proven immensely popular with children (and big kids) of all ages. This is a fantastic activity for enhancing communication within the group, as you work in a team to overcome certain challenges. It also develops a strong sense of trust. Our high-ropes course allows each participant to belay other members within the group, which in turn, requires trust, communication, team-work and listening skills. Each belay is fitted with a self-regulated breaking system, meaning if anyone does accidentally let go, the rope will automatically lock into position.

All of our activities are available as part of a residential, activity day or after-school session. Take a look at our new brochure, and turn to pg. 21 for Last Minute Autumn & Winter Deals! Currently on offer is an onsite Activity Day from 10am -2pm for just £12 p/p – a great treat for pupils this term. A full list of our onsite and offsite activities can be found pg. 8 – 14 of the brochure.

Day of Shakespeare Workshop

Day of Shakespeare Workshop

It is now compulsory for KS2 pupils to study Shakespeare – but how do you get children of this age interested in his plays? We might have the answer! In collaboration with Oddsocks Productions, we are hosting a Day of Shakespeare Workshop on Saturday 15th October. The workshop is designed for children aged 8 – 14 years, and will include drama games, exploration of Shakespeare’s well-known tragedy Romeo and Juliet, plenty of laughter, and a short-performance at the end of the day for parents to watch. The price for the Day of Shakespeare is just £25 p/p, including a delicious lunch at midday to keep energy levels up! If you would like to book, email:

Also don’t miss out on our Outdoor Cinema Screening of Macbeth (Sunday 25th September) and keep your eyes peeled for spooky October half-term activities to keep your children entertained during the holidays!
