Group leader check list
Can I visit Mount Cook prior to making a booking?
Whether you're a teacher, parent or group leader, we are more than happy to offer you a free Mount Cook planning visit. Please contact a member of the team to arrange a suitable date and time for you to have a tour around our Centre and facilities.

We pride ourselves on providing outstanding learning experiences and exciting outdoor activities. Our activity sessions have been recognised for their emphasis on safe practice, education, personal and social development, and of course, enjoyment! We are a holder of the AHOEC Gold Standard, LOtC Quality Badge, Adventuremark, AALA License Climbing Category, and a member of the Institute of Outdoor Learning
Are all staff DBS checked?
Mount Cook strives to check all its staff through the DBS system to a level that is relevant to their role and responsibilities.
Is there a first aider on site?
A first aider will be available at all times, including on activity sessions and overnight, All activity instructors carry first aid kits with them at all times and preform emergency drills throughout the year.
Do you have Public Liability Insurance?

How many group leaders can I bring?
We allow a 1:10 ratio of free leader spaces for school groups. This means if you bring 40 children we will allow for 4 free teacher spaces. You can add on leader spaces for an additional cost.
When should I book coaches or other transport for?
We ask that schools arrive with us for 13:00 on their first day and depart at 12:30 on their final day. Please ensure you book your coaches to arrive at this time, as we cannot accommodate early arrival or late departure unless pre-arranged with your coordinator.
Should my group bring spending money?
We recommend bringing a maximum £10 spending money. We have a souvenir shop and a vending machine available on site.
What about accommodation for group leaders?
We ask that teachers share bedrooms with other staff members of the same gender. We can offer single occupancy bedrooms for an additional fee, excluding our high season months from April – July. Single occupancy rooms for staff will be subject to availability.

How do I find Mount Cook Adventure Centre?
Our address, nearest train station, and a handy map are all available on our Contact Us page. If you need more advice, please give us a call!
What about parking?
We have parking for up to 40 vehicles in the car park opposite our main entrance. It's a 2 minute walk from the car park to the front door. We also have accessible car park spaces outside the front door, as well as charging for electric vehicles. If you bring an electric van or bus for your group, we will provide free charging.
Can I bring a dog?
Generally, dogs are not allowed on our site. The only exceptions are registered guide dogs, search & rescue dogs and animals that are specifically involved in programmes.
Do you cater for disabilities & dietary requirements?
We do! We collect all medical information prior to arrival. If you would like to speak to one of our staff about your specific requirements we would love to hear from you. Can my group set off fireworks?
No. Fireworks are strictly prohibited due to our status as an SSSI and to reduce fire risk. This includes sparklers, roman candles and catherine wheels.
Can I bring my own alcohol?
We have an onsite bar with a great selection of lager, wine, ale, spirits and soft drinks. We are therefore a licensed premises and ask that you do not bring your own alcohol onsite. If you have made an Exclusive Use booking and would like to provide all of your own alcohol, you will be asked to sign a disclaimer to take responsibility for alcohol consumed onsite.
When can I check into my room?
Earliest available check into rooms is from 3pm, and latest check out of rooms is 10am. For your actual arrival time at Mount Cook, please check with your Coordinator.
